ปัญหาการขาดแคลนนักบิน เป็นปัญหายาวนานมาตั้งแต่หลังสงครามโลกครั้งที่2เนื่องจากการเตรียมบุคลากร เพื่อเข้ามาเป็นนักบิน มีค่าใช้จ่ายที่สูงและใช้เวลานานสายการบินหลายแห่งจึงเริ่มตั้งคุณสมบัติ ขั้นต่ำของผู้ที่จะเข้าเป็นนักบินฝึกหัดว่าจะต้องสำเร็จการศึกษาอย่างน้อย ปริญญาตรี เพื่อเป็นสิ่งหนึ่งที่จะยืนยันได้ว่าบุคลากรที่รับเข้ามาจะประสบความสำเร็จ ในการฝึกเป็นนักบินพาณิชย์ในระยะเวลาที่ฝึกอบรมอันยาวนานคุ้มค่ากับต้นทุน ที่จ่ายไป โดยกระทรวงแรงงานสหรัฐได้สำรวจในปี พ.ศ. 2556 พบว่าจำนวนนักบินพาณิชย์ขาดแคลนกว่า 30,000 คนและเนื่องจากการขยายตัวทางเศรษฐกิจในทางตะวันออกกลาง และเอเชีย ตลาดนักบินมุ่งตรงมายังเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้เนื่องจากค่าตอบแทนยังต่ำกว่า ภูมิภาคอื่นซึ่งทางบริษัทแอร์บัสได้คาดการณ์ถึงความต้องการนักบินในภูมิภาค เอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้ ตามยอดการสั่งเครื่องบินว่าจะมีความต้องการนักบินสูงถึง20,000 คน ในอีก 10 ปีข้างหน้านั่นหมายความว่าความต้องการนักบินทั่วโลกก็ยิ่งสูง ขึ้นไปอีก ดังนั้นจึงถือเป็นโอกาสอันดีที่เราจะสร้างบุคคลที่สำเร็จการศึกษาปริญญาตรี วิศวกรรมศาสตร์ที่มีความสามารถสอบเป็นนักบินพาณิชย์ได้ทันทีทำให้มีศักยภาพ แข่งขันกับทั้งในประเทศกลุ่มอาเซียน และระดับโลกได้

 

Pilot shortage has been a long-standing problem since after World War II. In the past, many airlines have to train their pilots, which is very high cost and long time. Recently they have started a bachelor degree as the minimum
qualification for pilot trainee to argue their succeed as a commercial pilot in a long time training. The U.S. Labor Department’s survey in 2013 found that more than 30,000 commercial pilots were shortages. Due to economic growth in the Middle East and Asia markets, the pilot hunting headed to Southeast Asia because compensation is still lower than other regions. The Airbus Company has predicted the need for pilots in Southeast Asia, according to top orders up to 20,000 people in 2023. This means that the demand for pilots around the world is even higher. This is such a great opportunity for us to initiate the program that combines a bachelor of engineering and commercial pilot courses which can compete in the ASEAN countries and the world.
